Hever Response: the darkroom

In this lesson you will:

Discuss the Typography work of MM Paris
Respond by making 1 x A4 photoshop version of their work HEVER
Respond by making 1 x A4 darkroom version of their work with the word HEVER
Relate to your own ideas by discussing and reviewing your title page 'UNIT'



STARTER: 10m
Look back at your books, what typography do you have?  You should have UNIT - Illuminated text. If you do not then make sure you have collected your versions from NDV.

Was the hand made grid system hard?
How did it relate to the brief and Hever





MAIN TASK: Stenciled and Vignetted Text: 10mins
Use the Pictures provided and in groups of 4 discuss and then individually annotate the following: How could the pictures be made:

  • In photoshop?
  • In the darkroom?




MAIN TASK: 20mins
Making Inked Text to be used in Stenciled and Vignetted Text Experiments: 20mins


1.  In groups of 4 Paint the word Hever with water
2.  Quickly drop large drops of ink onto your HEVER water words to create 'fluid' Hever texts that use Red, Yellow and Blue inks
3.  Take photos of your words MAKE SURE THE PHOTOS ARE TAKEN DIRECTLY ABOVE
4. As an extension combine colours

PLENARY: 20mins

While TWO Members of each group upload the photos to the ARTS and MEDIA Drive, please discuss the work of MM Paris Typography and record ideas on:

1 what images that could be used
how you could use Illuminated Type to create your own typography and use as a stencil in the darkroom
3 what other objects could you use as stencils in the darkroom?

Save on in your drives and print out for your sketchbooks
